Publicizing Your Website
Publicizing your page is the process of making your website visible to the whole world. Publicizing your site will enable viewers to find your site, come to your site, and earn you money. There are probably millions of ways to promote your website but here are some of the basics that you’ll want to get down:
1. Search Engines
Your website will not succeed without good search engine (Google, Yahoo, etc.) placement. I’ve heard statistics saying that search engines are responsible for 90% of all web traffic. You DO NOT want to miss out on that! So, you have to submit your site to the search engines. You should do this manually.
- Visit these “Add URL”/”Submit Your Site” pages of the top 3 major search engines
Note: There are online sites claiming to submit your site to 40 search engines or whatever. Go ahead use them for the lesser known search engines, but unclick the major ones and be sure to manually submit to those (such as the ones above).
2. Signature Lines
Every e-mail you send has the opportunity to get you visitors to your website. Most email programs including Outlook and GMail allow you to add a ’signature’ to the bottom of your email. Simply add a short little ad for your site and POOF! every email you send will have an ad to your site.
Also, if you post on forums, you could be getting free advertising by posting that same ad you have in your email into your forum signature. This also will improve your search engine rankings.
3. Incoming Links
Incoming links (links from other sites to your site) will bring visitors to your site as well as increase your search engine rankings. Search engine rankings are very important. Let’s say for instance that you’re site is about ‘christmas cookies’. When a user searches ‘christmas cookies’ on a search engine, you want yours to be the first one listed right? Of course! You’re probably asking, how do you do that?
Simply put, you must (1) Have good original content, (2) links to your site from other sites (without your site linking to theirs; these types of links are called one-way links and are very important), and (3) have a good keyword density within your site (If your site is about Christmas cookies and you don’t have the word ‘Christmas cookies’ anywhere, your site’s rankings will suck.)
4. Directories
There are countless directories located online. It’s up to you to find ones with a high PageRank (a rank that Google assigns to websites). By having your site being linked to by a directory with a high ranking, your site will be ranked higher as well.
5. Social Networking
Social Networking is a huge promotion tool! By using sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Digg, StumbleUpon, and Delicious you can instantly create a higher ranking for your site and get FREE visitors. Basically, you can submit your pages or posts from your site to these sites. Simple as that! You can also add buttons to your site that allow your visitors to post your site on their profiles (such as the one below this page).
Like I said, these are only a few of the promotion tactics you can use. Be creative and think outside the box!
