Choosing the Type of Site
There are three routes you can take: A Blog site, A Template Site, or A Custom-Designed site.
A Blog Site
A blog site is one that you would create through a website such as Blogger or Wordpress. This is a good idea for a first website. It is very simple and easy to do and will give you somewhat of a background in web design. These sites will allow you to easily write text and insert pictures, etc. Blogger and Wordpress allow you to create your site and look all through an easy online wizard and easily create new content online anytime.
You simply must a register, choose a theme and add content. Piece of cake.
If you choose to do this, go ahead and move on to the next step, Creating Content. However, if you are interested in a www.yournamehere.com type of site you will want to keep reading…
A Template Site
Creating your own www.yournamehere.com site requires more work but allows greater flexibility and the ability to do much more with your site… and make more FREE money! Before your site goes live you’ll need to create the look and content of your site using either a template or custom design.
Creating the look of your website can be done by either creating a design from scratch or using a “template“. A template is a website design that is pre-made by a designer and luckily, the web is full of them and you can find them on sites such as my blog, MyTemplateStorage, or FreeWebTemplates.com. You can also use sites such as Google Pages that will make it very easy for you to create a website. If you take this route, all you have to do is add your own content.
A Custom-Designed Site
If you are a go-getter and want the most flexibility and customization possible, design and code it yourself! I don’t have the time and energy to guide you through the whole process but a wealth of information is avaible through Google. There are two ways to begin creating your own site:
- Programming (PHP/HTML/CSS) -PHP, HTML, and CSS are programming languages that you can use to create your site by entering a whole lot of text and weird characters. (For HTML tutorials visit W3Schools.com/HTML, For PHP tutorials visit W3Schools.com/PHP, For CSS tutorials visit W3Schools.com/CSS).
- A WYSIWYG editor (What You See Is What You Get)- Programs such as Microsoft Frontpage and Adobe Dreamweaver are WYSIWYG editors. There are a number of free editors however that you can download and use to begin creating your site such as CoffeeCup Free HTML Editor.
Like I said, I don’t have the time or energy to create tutorials for these programs but advice and instruction is easy to find on Google. Just search and you will find.
Once you get a design created or selected, it’s time to create content!
